With a date night to mark a celebration, only one thing will do – steak. So as I slowly make my way around Glasgow’s never-ending food scene, I decided we should visit one of the classic spots for a steak.  Butchershop Bar & Grill on Sauchiehall Street.  Neither of us had ever been so excitement levels were high.

We booked about two weeks in advance and managed to get an 8pm table on a Saturday.  The restaurant is smaller than I expected and it does seem to book up a couple of weeks ahead of time, so I’d recommend you make a reservation. Even more so now we’re approaching the festive season. A well-laid out restaurant, and we had a large booth to ourselves, so plenty privacy.  The general vibes were professional yet casual, which I really like.

We arrived a tiny bit early and were shown to the bar where we ordered some cocktails as we waited.  The barman was great and made recommendations a-plenty.  Hemingway Daiquiri, the rum-based cocktail, was my choice. An honorable mention goes to barman – he was great.  After being taken to our table, the waitress covered any questions we had about the menu and drinks. Thank you for helping a wine noob [me] choose the right glass of vino. Once we ordered, everything arrived really promptly.

I went for the Rib-Eye steak with chips, and a side of garlic green beans.  I requested that my steak be cooked medium and it arrived medium-rare.  Not a huge deal, and I still thoroughly enjoyed it, but it’s just something I thought I’d mention. Everything else was cooked beautifully.  The finale, which was just about as exciting as the main, was the dessert.  Sticky toffee pudding. Two spoons, please.  A few bites of this along with my espresso was the perfect end to the meal. Overall, highly recommended for a nice meal.  Thanks for reading – here’s some snaps.

Heard many great reports on this restaurant but as always Sarah you make it sound exceptional with such a great review. Another one to add to the many other restaurants to try which you have recommended…as never disappointed.
