My third visit to Topolabamba and still as impressive as ever. I guess you could describe it as Mexican-style tapas, with some larger dishes for the hungrier customer.  We visited the restaurant around 8.30pm on a Saturday and only waited around 20-25 minutes for a table (despite being told it would be 45).  Having the table wait cut in half was definitely a good start.

So I don’t normally check out new chain restaurants in Glasgow, purely because I like supporting local restaurants and kitchens. But between the social media praise and the real-life recommendations, I really wanted to pay this place a visit.  So June’s date night took us to a Saturday evening booking around 7pm to Smoke BBQ on West Regent Street.

I can’t explain how much I love visiting street-style food markets for dinner (or any meal to be fair but I’ve only ever gone to this kinda thing at night!).  Between the choice of food and the almost-guaranteed great atmosphere there’s just no going wrong.  So today I’m posting some snaps from Dinerama in Shoreditch.  Dinerama is one of the four food markets under the Streat Feast London umbrella.  Dinerama is in Shoreditch, Hawker House in Southwark, Model Market in Lewisham and Dalston Yard in Dalston.

If you’re in need of some good coffee and fancy going somewhere new, head south down to The Briggait where you’ll find the Dear Green Pop Up.  I made my first visit here last year around October, and they’re opening their doors again Friday-Sunday for the rest of summer.

Each month I try and visit at least one new restaurant in Glasgow, in an attempt to make the most of the fact I live in the city centre.  When you find somewhere amazing it’s so easy to fall into a delicious foody rut, so as of January 2015 we committed, and have visited somewhere new every month. We finally, FINALLY went to Hutchesons on Ingram Street.

In case you haven’t wandered down Gordon Street in a while, you should definitely go take a peek at Gordon Lane and see what’s popped up.  Next to Bier Halle you’ll spot the yellow sign for Laneways – a 9 month pop-up bar/kitchen which started in April this year. Before I get into the Supper Club event, here’s a quick description of Laneways from their Facebook:

“Laneways is a 9 month project bringing together the best street eats, back street cocktails & street art collectives the Glasgow pop scene has to offer.”

Best Burger Ever: El Perro Negro, Glasgow

El Perro Negro
https://twitter.com/perronegroglas

Yes, I said it.  The elusive pop up kitchen that is El Perro Negro makes me the best burger I have ever eaten a few times a year at his pop-ups in Glasgow. I don’t know a whole lot about the backstory of El Perro Negro other than what I’ve read online, but you can find a bit more info about the chef himself on James Vs. Burger (he has a more recent review of the last kitchen takeover too if you want to take a look).  I think he had one pop-up at Bloc on Bath Street, and for the past two years he’s been taking up residency in Brewdog’s kitchen on Argyle Street, satisfying the burger needs of the Glasgow population.  Good beer + best burger = happy days.

So a brunch date to the Trans Europe Cafe happened.  I’d been wanting to visit for a while, ’cause I feel like the Cafe holds some kind of reputation for being an ideal casual/delicious brunch spot in the city centre.

Last weekend Rick and I made our first visit to CAU, Glasgow.  Their Glasgow restaurant opened up a few months ago I think, and being settled in the beaut of a building I walk past every day was really ramping up the temptation.  I originally wanted to go for brunch (sweet potato and chorizo hash – hello) and Rick wanted to go for Sunday roast, but we happened to miss both… So dinner it was.

On a recent jaunt to London, I revisited an old favourite restaurant in Soho – Flat Iron.  Having visited the Beak Street branch a few times before, I was really excited to see they’d opened their second restaurant which is tucked away on Denmark Street, and felt obliged to go check it out.

The weekend before last saw the opening of Brewdog’s latest addition to their lineup – Doghouse. Homed in what has been an empty, unused space for as long as I can remember, the new bar is a welcome addition to Hutcheson Street.
