My third visit to Topolabamba and still as impressive as ever. I guess you could describe it as Mexican-style tapas, with some larger dishes for the hungrier customer.  We visited the restaurant around 8.30pm on a Saturday and only waited around 20-25 minutes for a table (despite being told it would be 45).  Having the table wait cut in half was definitely a good start.

So I don’t normally check out new chain restaurants in Glasgow, purely because I like supporting local restaurants and kitchens. But between the social media praise and the real-life recommendations, I really wanted to pay this place a visit.  So June’s date night took us to a Saturday evening booking around 7pm to Smoke BBQ on West Regent Street.

Five Places for Breakfast in London

If you’re looking for some inspiration for brunch or breakfast in London, I’ve got you covered.  I’ve rounded up five places dotted around the city with varying menus (yet I always order the eggs…) and budgets.  Enjoy.

Anyone who knows Papercup Coffee will probably be familiar with their Great Western Road location – one which I have never actually visited. So when I saw they were opening a city centre location in May, the prospect of another new regular coffee haunt in my ‘hood was exciting.  I finally popped in last week to sample their coffee and, of course, their cakes.

I can’t explain how much I love visiting street-style food markets for dinner (or any meal to be fair but I’ve only ever gone to this kinda thing at night!).  Between the choice of food and the almost-guaranteed great atmosphere there’s just no going wrong.  So today I’m posting some snaps from Dinerama in Shoreditch.  Dinerama is one of the four food markets under the Streat Feast London umbrella.  Dinerama is in Shoreditch, Hawker House in Southwark, Model Market in Lewisham and Dalston Yard in Dalston.

Each month I try and visit at least one new restaurant in Glasgow, in an attempt to make the most of the fact I live in the city centre.  When you find somewhere amazing it’s so easy to fall into a delicious foody rut, so as of January 2015 we committed, and have visited somewhere new every month. We finally, FINALLY went to Hutchesons on Ingram Street.

In case you haven’t wandered down Gordon Street in a while, you should definitely go take a peek at Gordon Lane and see what’s popped up.  Next to Bier Halle you’ll spot the yellow sign for Laneways – a 9 month pop-up bar/kitchen which started in April this year. Before I get into the Supper Club event, here’s a quick description of Laneways from their Facebook:

“Laneways is a 9 month project bringing together the best street eats, back street cocktails & street art collectives the Glasgow pop scene has to offer.”

So a few weeks ago when it was like a real life summer in Glasgow, Rick and I went for a walk (as we always do) to catch some rays.  And now said rays have (inevitably) disappeared I thought I’d reminisce about the time we stopped into Tantrum Doughnuts at random and treated ourselves to our first Tantrum experience.

So a brunch date to the Trans Europe Cafe happened.  I’d been wanting to visit for a while, ’cause I feel like the Cafe holds some kind of reputation for being an ideal casual/delicious brunch spot in the city centre.

Last weekend Rick and I made our first visit to CAU, Glasgow.  Their Glasgow restaurant opened up a few months ago I think, and being settled in the beaut of a building I walk past every day was really ramping up the temptation.  I originally wanted to go for brunch (sweet potato and chorizo hash – hello) and Rick wanted to go for Sunday roast, but we happened to miss both… So dinner it was.

New Years Day 2016

The beauty of staying in on New Years Eve watching Inside Out (which, by the way, was amazing) means no New Years Day hangover.  So this January 1st Richard and I headed out for a winter’s day walk, because it also happened to be the first day in forever that it wasn’t raining.

I was thinking of writing down some new years resolutions but it all seems a bit too cliché.  I definitely have some personal goals for the year ahead but I can maybe discuss them in a later post.  But I believe in start as you mean to go on, so here’s to exploring and taking more photographs in 2016!

A chilly Saturday morning and a break from the endless Glasgow rain meant one thing – a winter’s walk, and a visit to bakery47.  My first visit to be exact. With the sporadic opening hours and limited info available online, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  What I found was a warm and welcoming bakery-come-cafe with a pastry selection to please everyone imaginable.
