Pot Luck. It seems like the hottest brunch spot in the South side right now, and has been seriously filling up my Instagram feed. I made my first visit at the end of July (which was already overdue, to be honest, but there’s only so many hours in the week to eat all of the food). A short stroll from my favourite spots South side spots – Southside Roasters and Tapa – Pot Luck sits on Nithsdale Road. I don’t know much about the background of the company but I believe they opened around May this year. My friend and I stopped by around 2.30pm or something on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was almost full. But there just happened to be a table for two free – winner.
We both ordered coffee which, aside from being delicious, came in the cutest mugs. I appreciate when thought has gone into the smaller aspects of the dining experience. So the mugs added a nice personal touch which I was all over. I’m not sure what coffee they’re serving but I was pleasantly surprised. I suppose because the showstopper in this place really is the food, the coffee might be slightly overlooked. But definitely worth mentioning – it’s worth an order.
I’ll talk about the food already. I basically wanted one of everything on the menu but managed to settle for the Rice Bowl. This is served with salmon, egg, veg and some ‘special’ sauce which melded everything nicely. My pal went for the Chilli Pork, which is definitely on my list for next time. A small but affectionate portion of slow braised pork shoulder, served with hash browns, avocado, and some trimmings.
The prices are incredibly reasonable for the creativity and quality that have gone into the dishes. They also have a banging bakery section at the till – a caramel brownie came home with me, not gonna lie. An overall great addition to the Southside and I cannot wait to make a return visit – has anyone seen those hotcakes?!
Let me know if you’ve visited Pot Luck and tell me what to try next. Thanks for reading.
