El Perro Negro

Yes, I said it.  The elusive pop up kitchen that is El Perro Negro makes me the best burger I have ever eaten a few times a year at his pop-ups in Glasgow. I don’t know a whole lot about the backstory of El Perro Negro other than what I’ve read online, but you can find a bit more info about the chef himself on James Vs. Burger (he has a more recent review of the last kitchen takeover too if you want to take a look).  I think he had one pop-up at Bloc on Bath Street, and for the past two years he’s been taking up residency in Brewdog’s kitchen on Argyle Street, satisfying the burger needs of the Glasgow population.  Good beer + best burger = happy days.

I first visited his kitchen takeover last year and immediately tweeted my excitement.  I also unknowingly entered a competition to win a free burger, and was lucky enough to bag myself a meal for me and a friend at the next one.  Since then I’ve been pretty religious about booking a table when those blessed Sunday’s roll around.

He has his ‘signature’ burger, The Top Dog, on offer every time, along with the new regular, The NYC (my personal favourite – pastrami and pickle? GIMME).  And there were two different burgers at the last two takeovers

Of course you can grab a burger at one of the 10+ other burger restaurants that have opened up in Glasgow over the last three years, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a gourmet burger made with such high quality ingredients and care.  You can tell the man behind the Kitchen has a serious passion for what he does, and he pulls it off in a remarkable fashion.  Roll on Sunday July 3rd – which is, by the way, the next kitchen takeover!  Here’s some photos to drool over.

Like I said, El Perro Negro will be holding his next pop up on Sunday July 3rd at Brewdog in the West End, so keep an eye on his Twitter for updates.  I promise it’s worth the wait.
