Brunch in Glasgow: Tapa, Pollokshaws Road

Tapa – tapacoffee.com
721 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow G41 2AA

Today we’ve got one of my Glasgow Southside favs – Tapa Organic. They have a branch in Dennistoun too which I haven’t visited, but I’m sure it’s equally as great.

Sitting on Pollokshaws Road (across from the wonderful Southside Roasters cafe), Tapa serves up fresh, delicious breakfast and lunch dishes. From a full breakfast and French toasts to fresh deli sandwiches and Caesar salad – they’ve got you covered on all the brunch classics. They also bake a huge variety of organic bread in their own bakery which you can buy to take away. And last but not least, I believe they brew their own coffee as well. Extra brownie points.

Last weekend took me to the Southside, and I couldn’t miss checking out Southside Roasters’ new coffee shop. Southside Roasters are a small batch coffee roaster based in Glasgow. They opened their doors to their first coffee shop a couple of months ago. I’ve been really keen to check out their cafe since seeing the work in progress snaps of building the shop on their Instagram.

Five Places for Coffee in Glasgow

If you’re in need of a good quality caffeine jolt in Glasgow city centre, look no further. The Glasgow coffee scene is pretty strong, and these are five of my favourite places to hit up for a coffee in Glasgow.

Laboratorio Espresso
labespr.tumblr.com

My absolute number one. Whenever anyone asks for a coffee recommendation in Glasgow, Laboratorio Espresso is my first suggestion. Laboratorio Espresso is a small Italian-inspired coffee shop located on West Regent Street, just behind Buchanan Street. They serve a curated selection of coffees and snacks (and teas, if your company is that way inclined), in a beautifully designed, minimalist environment. If it’s a nice day you can take a seat outside. You’ll find a small selection of pastries, cakes and sandwiches if you’re peckish. I would recommend a lemon cannoli to pair with your coffee of choice; I promise you won’t regret it.

Visiting Copenhagen in December

Of all the cities I have visited so far, visiting Copenhagen was a very special trip. This may have been because it was during the festive season. Copenhagen in December is just adorable. Either way, if you’re considering a trip to Denmark over Winter, don’t let the cold put you off. The wind blew hard and the rain regularly drizzled, but it didn’t dampen our Christmas spirits.  This city is just wonderful.

I visited Copenhagen last December, and with Christmas rolling around again out of nowhere, I really just wanted to reminisce.  This city deserves some praise, and hopefully, this post will give you some tips if you’re planning on visiting anytime soon. Everywhere mentioned is in the city centre, or just outside of it. So let’s talk about visiting Copenhagen.

Anyone who knows Papercup Coffee will probably be familiar with their Great Western Road location – one which I have never actually visited. So when I saw they were opening a city centre location in May, the prospect of another new regular coffee haunt in my ‘hood was exciting.  I finally popped in last week to sample their coffee and, of course, their cakes.

If you’re in need of some good coffee and fancy going somewhere new, head south down to The Briggait where you’ll find the Dear Green Pop Up.  I made my first visit here last year around October, and they’re opening their doors again Friday-Sunday for the rest of summer.

So a few weeks ago when it was like a real life summer in Glasgow, Rick and I went for a walk (as we always do) to catch some rays.  And now said rays have (inevitably) disappeared I thought I’d reminisce about the time we stopped into Tantrum Doughnuts at random and treated ourselves to our first Tantrum experience.

A chilly Saturday morning and a break from the endless Glasgow rain meant one thing – a winter’s walk, and a visit to bakery47.  My first visit to be exact. With the sporadic opening hours and limited info available online, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  What I found was a warm and welcoming bakery-come-cafe with a pastry selection to please everyone imaginable.

Today we went for a long walk; through the city, down to Queen’s Park then back up and along the River and through the West End.  Made a pit-stop at Kelvingrove Gallery then headed back into town, and very happily stumbled across Gesso – a relatively new café tucked away on St George’s Road.  I’d briefly read about this on WOW247’s “Best Coffee Spots in Glasgow” post a few weeks ago but had totally forgotten about it.

Glasgow is on a bit of a roll with independent coffee shops cropping up on every corner – and as a huge lover of the bean, I obviously couldn’t be happier about it.
